The Neon Museum

The Neon Museum is a wonderful attraction that is home to Las Vegas’ old neon signs, and which is loved for holding on to what has become an iconic part of the city’s culture.

Located just north of Downtown Las Vegas, the museum best captures the city’s glitz and glitter.

When visitors explore Las Vegas, often the first experience of the city is linked to the giant neon sign that greets visitors arriving on the Strip – the iconic ‘Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas’ sign. If you are fascinated by all the lights and sights, then this museum will be worth checking out.

Neon signs were first introduced to the city in 1929 at the Oasis Café, which was located on Fremont Street. In the years that followed, the advancement of LED and LCD screens saw the signs replaced. This spurred one of the neon manufacturers to collect the old disused neon signs and preserve them.

The Neon Museum was opened in 1996 with most of the pieces donated by the company. Today, the collection grows with the continual addition of signs from renovated properties.

While at it, take time to visit the museum’s visitor center located next to the collection of signs at the Boneyard. The center was set up in the lobby of the La Concha Motel, which is known for its seashell-shaped exterior. The motel is significant because it was saved from demolition before its relocation to the Boneyard.

When strolling through the museum, you can’t help but marvel at how many signs there are, with half of the two-acre space being occupied by more than 100 signs. These signs make up the collection for which visitors can view during a guided tour. The other half of the property is used as a staging venue for entrepreneurs in the creative sector.

Other amenities present at the museum include tables, kiosks, a stage, and car parking space.

The best time to visit Neon Museum is in the evening hours when the signs come alive, creating a stunningly beautiful display. The museum is open daily from 10am to 10pm.
