Pioneer Park in St. George is a great destination that combines the best of the outdoors with adventurous activities, making it a giant playground for the whole family.
The park is often referred to as ‘Utah’s Dixie,’ so much so that the first thing visitors notice is the word ‘DIXIE” written on the red rock cliff in big white letters.

It is interesting to note that there are no well-defined trails at the park. Instead, the park is connected to a myriad of interconnected trails located in the nearby Red Cliffs National Conservation Area. With this in mind, check out the Sugarloaf, which is a huge dome-shaped rock that overlooks the city.
To get to the top of the rock, follow the trail that cuts across large rocks and to a bridge. A few steps from the steel bridge, the vast expanse of the sandstone opens up with panoramic views – a reward for the hike. Stroll at the top of the rock as you enjoy the scenic views. Caution must be exercised as there are very steep edges.
Walk through the narrows that make up Pioneer Park and marvel at its numerous domes, towers, and arches. This part of the park is also popular for rock climbing and rappelling, thanks to its popular traverses found on the rocks. Alternatively, head out to the Boy Scout Cave to explore its fascinating interiors.
Stop by at the Red Hills Desert Garden and enjoy the park’s tranquility. Look out for the labeled native fish species in the artificial waterways, and learn more about the flora with plants such as the Agave and cacti.
Amenities available at the park include kiosks, a submerged gazebo, as well as bench swings for the little ones to enjoy a fun-filled day at Pioneer Park.
