The bend is located just about a half a mile from the parking lot on Route 89 and can be quite steep at certain sections of the route. Despite the short distance, the hike may prove to be a challenge owing to the deep sand along the way. Additionally, hiking shoes are not mandatory as the trail is not treacherous, but it helps to wear closed shoes.
The 15-minute hike is ideal for families, but caution must be exercised at the overlook as there are no railings on the edges. It also helps to carry a hat as the overlook is not shaded. Take the camera along too as the splendor of the Bend’s views makes for a memorable photo.
The best time to visit Horseshoe Bend is in the late afternoon. This is because as the sun heads to the west, it lights up the Bend, so much so that it looks as if the rock formation is glowing from within. The Bend is also popular at sunset for visitors who would want to capture the golden hour.
Other popular attractions near Horseshoe Bend include the Glen Canyon Dam, Wahweap Bay, Castle Rock, as well as the famous Antelope Canyon. Boat tours are also available for visitors who would like a unique perspective of the bend.
