The Glen Canyon National Recreation Area is comprised of both the conservation and recreation area that encircles the area around the popular Lake Powell.

The recreation area has many public areas where visitors can unwind, as well as allowing for environmental preservation.

As such, the recreation area has been expanded to ease access to Lake Powell through the availability of marinas, multiple camping sites, as well as boat rental facilities. The area can also be accessed by road Routes 89 and 98, making it one of the most trafficked destinations in the park.

The Glen Canyon National Recreation Area borders the states of Arizona and Utah, providing a myriad of opportunities for water activities and outdoor adventure. This diversity also includes the geologic wonders and natural formations with sweeping views of the park.

The area’s proximity to Lake Powell makes it an idyllic getaway. Boating is a popular activity at the lake, and summer brings visitors in their numbers to enjoy the lake’s serenity. It is also a fantastic way to experience some of the park’s landmarks, including Castle Rock and the popular Wahweap Bay area. Those who want to take the experience a notch higher book a tour to experience the nearby Antelope Canyon.

Experience the adrenaline rush of water sports at Lake Powell with activities such as snorkeling, diving, and water-skiing. The lake’s waters are clear, and this allows swimmers to get the most of the experience at the lake.

Away from the lake’s waters, outdoor lovers can always enjoy hiking and backcountry adventures. Look out for the petroglyph panel just below the dam, or choose to explore other attractions such as the Chains and the Skylight Arch.

A tour of the recreation area is incomplete without visiting the Rainbow Bridge National Monument. This is a natural bridge and scared site for its native tribes. Its structure resembles that of a rainbow and easily accessed by boat.

Other key attractions at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area include the Grand Gulch Primitive Area, Halls Crossing Marina, and the Hite Marina.
